Theres a lot of different ideas of bone alignment in many arts. For the most part imo bone alignment should be off the radius (biggest bone in your forearm) lining up with your scaphoid (bone between your radius and index finger) lining up with your trapezoid (index finger knuckle) & your capitate (middle finger knuckle). The lunate helps in this as well as it supports the side of the capitate.
If you align these bones you don't have to close your fist when you strike and hit correctly with the trapezoid and the capitate. Some will tell you that this willl buckle your wrist but if you align those bones in your hand with your radius in your forearm your wrist wont buckle on impact and if conditioned right shouldnt break your knuckles.
I don't so reverse or twisting punches too much. Only really twisting punch I do is a overhand punch. Reason being is a simple half step left, right, or back and you can snap or hyperextend the elbow up or inwards faily easy. I like to stick with vertical fist as my bread and butter. With it I can look down the path of my arm and visually see that the bones are aligned by the outside of my arm and hand aligning.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. It's always nice to hear someone else's opinion on the matter. I tend to agree with the JeetKunDo theory because the bones truly are more aligned when turned slightly so it would make sense that the punch would have more power. It most likely depends on the individual. But I also can see how it can work against you if you slip.
Noticed on a blog that you asked about rotating your hand clockwise when striking. I am assuming you are refering to a reverse punch?
I was taught that a reverse punch is design to strike the ribs of a samurai wearing armor breaking the armor, then twisting through the armor breaking the attackers ribs. The theory behind it is the lower body works as kinetic energy which is half mass times velocity squared. Your upper body works more as a stabilizer using the formual of power which is mass times velocity.
Then, there is always Jeet Kun Do theory of bone alignment. Bruce Lee believed that if you twist your punched 45 degrees you will align your bones much better gaining more power in your strike.
Basically, its a way to gain more energy in your strike. But, it comes with a cost as not too many twisting punches allow for someone to be well guarded. Also the twist in the punch allows someone to break your arm much easier or gain control of it much easier if they slip the attack.
