POLICE HUMOR
Posted On 12/19/2007 14:32:10 by evangelium

Okay, a bit more lightness. Correction: first bit of levity in a while. I re-read my last post-supposedly a break from heaviness--and I go off on crazy tangents and follow-up with an endless series of quotes on love. That caught my attention. I need to work on lightness and fun. In my defense, I do have a sense of humor though it tends to be dark, dry, biting, and few people realize I'm joking. Okay, I need a major overhaul not just a tune-up. It's worse, this is me on anti-... Read More

The Future of Olympic Competition

I recently saw articles in two different martial arts magazines, one for traditionalist published in England, and the other for Korean stylist published in the U.S.A.  The English publication talked about traditional karate possibly becoming an Olympic sport in 2012.  The Tae Kwon Do magazine talked about trying to put the realism back into their sport.  One of the key points made by the... I prefer to know why I am such a grump.....know the truth and it will set you free......to get more grumpy (half joking). R. D. Laing, the famous and controversial Scottish... Read More

THE HAZARDS OF TRADITIONAL RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

The "turn the other cheek" idea never sat well with me. Well before I commenced 12 years of education in Catholic schools, played altar boy at the daily 6:30 am morning Mass, served at 2 or 3 Masses some Sundays and always on Wedding and Funeral Masses, and all the rest, I began to identify Church doctrine and accepted teachings that didn't make sense. Over time, the 'sorry, doesn't make sense' list was longer than the 'okay, I can live wi... Read More

Catholic sex abuse scandal-Ripple effects
Posted On 11/28/2007 14:06:20 by evangelium

(Below is a post made to local online newspaper....the issues seem relevant to most everyone...)

Revelations of new cases of sexually misbehaving priests, cover-ups, and truly bizarre ripple effects continue to emerge. A magnificent example of the ineptitude of Church leaders to 'manage' this crisis hit the news a few weeks ago. Some may recall that groups of aging nuns are being evicted from their residences of 30-40 years, so the Church can sell the property to settle lawsuits !
