INTRODUCTION: MEN, BLIND SPOTS, AND BRUISES
There is relatively little written about the seemingly unique vulnerabilities, blind spots, and bruises experienced by male warriors. Nothing surprising about this however unfortunate it is. Men of this type tend to be misunderstood and misunderstand themselves. So what ? How do matters of sensitivity and understanding matter in the lives of warriors ? Dunno. Just some observations.
Warriors strike me as some of the more compassionate and vulnerable human beings I've known. Permit me some generalizations for the sake of argument.
1) Warriors don't seem to 'choose' their lot in life;
2) Loneliness seems to be an unavoidable aspect of their lives;
3) Many warriors move through the world as lone wolves making it hard for others to cover their blind spots.....at 4 and 8 on the clock;
4) Warriors invariably must face the fact that they can frighten their nearest and dearest;
5) Warriors bump into loads of unrealistic expectations with friends while their mere existence seems to prompt attacks by 'enemies';
6) Not only is a warrior's work never done--like mother's work--but it's thankless at best and at worst----there are no limits;
7) Warriors seem to be especially vulnerable to injury and insults when they pick the wrong women---a warrior's code of honor tends to interfere with the ability to defend themselves from attacks;
Rather than tackle these issues all at once----making for a tome--, I figure it's best to explore these 7 matters one at a time. Certainly, there are more than 7 'matters'. I am not thrilled at the thought of covering one of them let alone the 7 listed above.
Some things strike too close to home. Please feel more than free to send your reflections on any/all of the above along with whatever else comes to mind.
