To respond to some of the questions Senseimodi listed I've started this
blog. By all means question me. If anything sounds off to you. I want
to fully explain my views on the martial arts community. First off. My
refrences to styrofoam, pitchers, and glass cups. You were wondering if
we should be puddles. The answer is no. I was simply refering to how
over time you progress and get stronger and stronger. Going from a
small cup of water to a full pitcher, or even a bath tub full of water
or swimming pool. The point was that no matter how big the enclosing
was as you progressed it still was a border. A limitation. Something of
a hinderance a box etc. Nothing like an ocean of water freely flowing
where ever in the earth it wants. How do I test my style my vehicle? I
go up against those who are accomplished in there own styles and
ranking and belts and spar with them. Challenge them to see if what I'm
creating is even worthy of the fighting community. Or is it some odd
scrapping of a madman. I can hold my own. Using my teachings against
the 300 years of weight there styles have. Many of them humbly respect
my art and say that its unique and seems like its been around for
awhile. The proof is in the pudding. What would you do if you had an
idea a concept that seems laughable at best but you step out on faith
and are now being mentioned within the same breath as some of the
greats. I'm not hyping myself up. I'm not even just going around
beating weak students or anything like that. I want to challenge people
and have honorable sparring matches and sometimes its a stale mate and
others its a win or loss. I look at everything as a learning experience
and add my experience to my art. But if any martial artists are
respecting my style then I have to be doing something right. In the
mentioning of the weapons of my style why did I say sword and not
katana? Well we're not just secluded to a samurai type of sword but all
types. Chinese sabers,  Broad swords, Katanas, even small daggers.
Did I develope my knowlege on Ki by myself or did I have guidence? I
had a huge amount of guidence from my master and many others. I have
had personal experiences and discoveries all on my own based from what
I was taught about energy and how it reacts. Jiibundo where did the
name come from? how did it name itself? In my meditation one evening I
finished up and someone asked me my style. I responded I have none I'm
mastering myself. Then I heard self taught! It just popped into my
head. I got an eerie feeling afterwards. I want to say it was some type
of spiritual inspiration. So I looked into it and I realized the name
was self in japanese so. It became "The way of self" or "one's self."
The skills mentions in my style are available in many real martial
arts. Thats just it. This is why mine is different Many styles have the
same thing but I am one of the first to put it all together. Imagine
going from a karate chop, to a tiger claw, then a shaolin sweep kick,
and then finish with a figure four leg lock. All these moves are found
in many differnt styles but would never be put in one box or teaching
environment. I hope this has opened you up more to this concept.

All good comments.  As noted below, everyone does do that to some extent if they are interested in improving their personal skills beyond what they already know or possess.  That is why learning and developing is a lifelong journey.  Of course, "swimming across the river" rather than "walking across the bridge" has it's advantages and disadvantages, as it is the journey that is most valuable (and not just hurrying to your destination).  ^_^  Food for thought!

I HOPE YOU GET THE FACT THAT OU WILL PRODUCE WHAT YOU HAVE ALREADY INTEGRATED (NOT STUDIED) INTO YOURSELF AS A SENSEI.  YOU WILL TEACH WHAT YOUR BODY HAS LEARNED.  IN THIS SENSE, THOUSE OF US WHO HAVE STUDIED JUDO, IAIDO, KARATE AND JUJUTSU WILL MAKE A COMINATION OF THAT AT SOME POINT IN OUR TEACHING, EVEN IF WE ARE ALREADY MANTELED BY ISSHINRYU KARATE DO OR KARATE DO SHOTOKAI, ETC.

thanks for the response.  I will answer by saying that you (in a way) are doing what every practitioner of any art must do to reach the highest levels of skill.  However, you are crossing the river by swimming. It is much easier to use a bridge.  Have you read the book of 5 rings. Musashi was self taught in combat.

I would caution you in one way.  The idea you have is good in essence, but not as original as you might think.  Many have walked this path before you and what you have described thus far is not  an original idea. You will find that it is actually quite common.  Learn everything you can from everyone you can and use what works for you.  Yes during this exploration you may  come upon some new ideas. They may give you an advantage in some ways but don't let ego force you to reject the lessons that are offered.

As for combining techniques....I've been doing that as a regular part of training for 30 years.  Again not a new idea.

I encourage you to continue to explore.  Keep your mind truly open.

Ps I'll be back in about ten days.
