Katana Swords "questions"
Posted On 09/02/2008 11:54:48 by Kyoshi
I had a students buy one of the signature Series swords from Century Martial Arts, He bought the Katana XL Sword. It was a very nice looking sword and was very sturdy as said. It had a few what looked like scratch marks on the Habaki? I looked in the catalog at the katana XL in the picture and it was the same, it had the 4 marks on each side. I looked at the regular katana in the book but it did not have the marks. I am going to call century and ask if the marks should be there? On the Blade there are little mark on the Hamon. I was told that the Hamon was as they said "real" not acid ecthed. So my questions is how would I know if the Hamon is real? How should I test the sharpness of the blade? It did not seem to be that sharp to me but again I do not know how to gage that. The wrap was tightly woven on the Tsuka-Ito and the Menuki (cherry blossom)is very nice and said to be 24ct gold as with the Fuchi,Seppa,Kashiraand. The Tsuba is a ocean wave motif and very heavy. The Katana XL and the regular Katana are made by Paul Chen of Hanwei, The Signature Series Swords made by Henwei... Anyone have these swords? If so what do you think? Do you own a real Katana sword? If so who do you think has the best swords for sale? Any and all comments, reply's. :) Thanks, Kyoshi...

F.Y.I. Century MA said that the S.S. Swords all have the marks on the Habaki. We went online to the Hanwei web site and all there swords 500.00 dollars and up "all" have the marks on habaki.
This to show that there hand made... It is a great looking sword and cut's very good. At first I needed to know why it had scratch marks on the habaki but now I know the reason, it's alright.
If anyone has or get's one of these swords please give us your feedback.
thanks
Kyoshi
