Kickboxing Book
Posted On 05/12/2008 22:45:38 by ScottAshley

I have finished my book and it is now copyrighted. I'm trying to decide if I should selfpublish, or take my chances with a publisher. Can anyone give me feedback on their thoughts?

How many books can a kickboxing guide to training sell that was written by a real world kickboxing champion?

I don't want it to cost me money just to say that I'm a published author. If I buy in bulk I will have to buy a minimum of 1,000 books. If I buy 3,000 the cost is cut in half.

Any recommendations will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Great news! I'm glad that your enjoying the training. I messed up my shoulder pretty bad and have not been able to hit the bags. I go to the ortho next Wed. I think I may need a little scope in there. Just when I get into a good routine something always pops up. The problem is that I train like I'm 25, but I'm 45 and my body can't take what I put it through. I've had to cut back on swimming as well.

Hopefully I can get my book out soon. There are not many written by a real world champion and I know that my training recommendations can help someone take it to the next level.

Take care!

Scotty

hey Scott,  we corresponded several weeks ago, and I joined the local kickboxing school,  have been enjoying it .. good physical workout and seeing an improvement in my kicking and punching techniques (capabilities).  Still have lots of work to do on distancing, timing, movement etc.  I picked up a book by Pat O'Keefe,  it certainly added to the class room training and I would recommend that students buy a book.  So best of luck with your endeavour.

Thanks so much. This is the kind of advice that I'm looking for. I have already gone to the book sotre and found the publishers that do these kind of books. The thing is, I did all the work to format the book with the photos inserted, however, the publishers want the text and photos seperate. I guess I'll have to put more hours in on the pc formatting it for them.

Thanks again!

Do try to get it published.  My brother has gone through self-publishing a driving book and it is very costly.  At least he has a ready-made audience - his students will buy it.

However it sounds to me like your book actually has a place in the market.  I've not seen too many good kickboxing books around - particularly those written by real champions.  Most books by champions (Benny the Jet, etc.) are really quite cursory on training detail and are more a memoir.  If yours is a thorough training guide with useful training routines etc. it could really take off.

Have a look in your local bookshop as to who publishes these kinds of books and target those publishers specifically.  Try an agent too.

Give it a good try with publishers.  If you get nowhere, you can fall back to self-publishing.

My 2 cents...

I wish you the best of luck and congratulate you on finishing a book - an achievement by anyone's standards.
